Beth Lang, Head of People and Lunio, is a true advocate of the flexible work revolution, having now implemented it at two companies.

"If you're not flexible, you just miss out on so much talent. Think of the number of people who have personal circumstances that mean they can't be in the office on fixed days every week. Whether it be carers or parents, or those with a disability. Why would you want to exclude them from your hiring process?

"But as we know, flexible work is not easy. So Beth shared how Lunio has made it a success:

✨ Commuting Costs: Lunio reimburses their employees for the cost of commuting into the office. This reduces the friction and results in more people coming into the office.

✨ Choice and Autonomy: Employees are empowered to choose their preferred work mode, whether fully remote or hybrid. This autonomy empowers employees to choose the best place to work based on where they'll be most productive.

✨ Working Hours Flexibility: Core working hours of 10 am to 3 pm provide a structured framework while allowing employees to flex their hours around personal responsibilities.

✨ Listening to employees: Lunio invests a lot of time in ensuring all their employees have a voice. So if something isn't working, they can adapt quickly. Regular Town Halls to give their team a chance to give feedback is a cornerstone of this.

✨ First week in the office for new starters: Flexible work is hard on new joiners. It makes it challenging to learn organically from senior colleagues. So Lunio requires all new starters and their team to spend the first week together in the office.

✨ No hybrid meetings: Hybrid meetings suck, we all know this. So Lunio really encourages their teams to either meet all in person or all remotely.

✨ The Four Day Work Week: It started from a suggestion from an employee and it's been a huge success. Employees get the chance to properly recharge at the weekend and then come in ready to go again on a Monday.

✨ Leadership Alignment: There is enthusiasm for flexible work across the leadership team, resulting in policies that reflect the company's ethos. The CEO's endorsement of the four-day workweek illustrates the top-down commitment to employee well-being and flexibility.

✨ Inclusive Hiring: The flexible work model widens Lunio's talent pool, inviting those with caregiving responsibilities, disabilities, or geographical constraints to contribute their skills.

Officely: Last but not least, having Officely allows everyone to know who's working where each day to encourage more people to meet up.
